Rama First Nation Introduces a New, Improved Post-Secondary Education Policy

On June 17, 2019, Chief and Council approved revisions to the Rama First Nation Post-Secondary Education policy. Here are some of the highlights of the changes:

 

  1. The removal of fixed application deadlines. With few restrictions, students can now apply whenever they are ready. Students are still encouraged to apply as early as they are able to ensure assistance is available.
  2. Increase in full-time assistance by $250 per semester.
  3. Increase in maximum tuition for part-time programs to $7,500/year
  4. Introduction of special assistance for students in Ojibwe Language Programs.

Our post-secondary students are truely an amazing group of individuals. Here are some of the facts:

1. We have more post-secondary students per capita than Canada as a whole.

2. For the last 10 years we have graduated more post-secondary students capita than Canada as a whole.

3. Our students study all over the country and the world, including some of the worlds most prestigious universities.

4. Our students study at all levels from certificate programs right up to Ph. D. studies. 

5. Our students are in a variety of programs including, social sciences, engineering, medicine, law, fine arts, education, business, skilled trades, and many more.

6. Our students are at the forefront of groundbreaking research projects in engineering, psychology, indigenous education and history.

7. Both young and older students including those with families and single parents are graduating each year.

8. Our students earn over $100,000 each year in scholarships and bursaries.
